ZODORART: The Story behind this small family venture. How a middle-aged accountant started an Etsy shop about unique gemstone jewelry.
♡ Creation = Love = Offer
I am a woman who loves being creative in all possible ways. Since I remember myself, I love to create. At first, was painting and the engraving art, later sewing, knitting, making jewelry.
I had always been creative and artistic and I believe that I have an inherent look for elegance and design. However, I studied accounting and I opened my own accounting office at a very early age. Although I loved what I did, the increasing volume of work and the high demands and risks of that job, made me feel suffocating.
Since 2010, when the financial crisis here in Greece started, a lot of businesses have started to close down and the profession of the accountant is constantly being devalued, making my daily routine even more unbearable. This fact changed me to a disappointed woman, constantly stressed, trapped in a job that, after 35 years, was causing me depression. So I started to look for ways to get out of my misery, to recover my lost self, to regain my smile.
♡ I started creating again, I began to smile again.
I realized that creating jewels helps me to eliminate daily stress. It relaxes me, it gives me peace, it transfers me to a beautiful world. Making something pretty and functional fills my soul.
I started creating my first jewels with crystal beads, silicone string, and steel wire. I used to offer those jewels as gifts to relatives, acquaintances, and friends, filling my soul with joy and satisfaction because I offered something handmade and unique. The compliments and acceptance that I had received, have prompted me to continue, by studying new materials and techniques. Somehow like that, I discovered the semi-precious stones and fell in love.
The variety of their colors and the unique qualities of each stone inspired me. The endless combinations offered by their diversity, made me want to design necklaces and bracelets incessantly. One day I decided that I had to share my creations with the Etsy community.
♡ ZODORART was born
ZODORART = ZOE + DORA + ART
The name ZODORART comes from the combination of my name (DORA), the word ART and the name of my youngest daughter (ZOE) which in Greek means life. For me, ZODORART is interpreted as artistic life.
♡ Unique Stylish Handcrafts
Every jewel I create is unique; a small piece of art. Most importantly, every jewel contains a piece of my heart and soul. Thus, I consider every jewel as my “baby” and I take care of them to the last detail. I lean in my chair and envisioning a woman wearing it.
Is she young? Is she powerful? What's her job? Does she have children? Is she a busy person? Does she prefer colorful beads? What are her needs?
By wearing ZODORART jewelry, every woman may feel balanced and calm, beautiful and successful, strong, determined, bold, authentic, trustworthy.
Now I deal with something I love and that makes me very happy. At this attempt my two beloved daughters, Olga and Zoe, are helping me, each in a different way. They are the ones who support me and giving even more sense in my journey.
Thank you for taking some time to read my story. I hope you like my jewelry collection, too!
